WHAT IS JAPANESE ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a system of medicine that has been safely used for thousands of years to diagnose, prevent, and treat "dis-ease". Acupuncture began to spread to neighboring countries, including Japan, during ancient times through cultural and trade exchanges, especially with the transmission of Buddhism. Over the centuries, Japanese scholars and practitioners began to integrate their understanding of acupuncture with their own traditional medical knowledge and philosophical perspectives. This led to the development of a distinct style of acupuncture known as "Japanese acupuncture.

Acupuncture treats the root cause, not just the symptoms, for longlasting relief. Because it is a complete system of medicine, acupuncture can successfully address many health conditions – even many that confound the best diagnosis of traditional medicine doctors.

In comparison to the Chinese style, Japanese acupuncture uses thinner needles and a gentler technique, with shallow insertion. By using ultra-thin, sterile needles, Michael painlessly stimulates precise trigger points (Link to Triggers Point page) in the body.

Acupuncture improves circulation, decreases inflammation, regulates hormones, among other benefits. Acupuncture points facilitate healing by activating your own innate healing mechanisms. You may feel a slight prick, dull, heavy sensation, possibly tingling — or nothing at all. Patients rarely report feeling pain and generally feel rested when they get off the table.

NEEDLE-FREE TREATMENT OPTIONS

Needle-free treatments are available such as cupping, Asian Bodywork, Laser therapy, Auricular, etc. Again, Japanese style acupunture uses thinner needles and painless insertion in general, while Chinese style acupunture tends to be more more intense.  My primary Japanese teacher use to say "the patient is usually already in pain, it is unprofessional to cause more."
